A holiday in Oman is a journey through a country filled with culture, beautiful nature and very hospitable people. It is one of the most authentic Arab countries and it houses a variety of flora and fauna. You will find extensive deserts such as the Sharqiya desert in the northeast and the much larger Rub al-Khali in the south of Oman. From the plains of the Sharqiya desert you look up to the Hajar mountains where you will find Jebel Shams, the mountain of the sun, and Jebel Akhdar, the green mountain. These mountain peaks are up to 3009 meters high. In the Hajar Mountains you will find what is called the Grand Canyon of Oman. An area where you can drive beautiful off-road routes, go mountain biking and take extraordinary walks. Afterwards you can marvel at the green wadis which you will find throughout the country between the mountains and the coast. These wadis give you the opportunity to undertake exciting hikes and fun adventures.
In addition to all this natural beauty, you will find picturesque villages such as Rustaq, Bilad Sayt and Ibra. Wandering through those streets will introduce you to the daily arabic life and you will learn about many Omani traditions.
During a trip through Oman, an extensive visit to the capital Muscat cannot be missed. It is best to plan a full day to explore the white city. Muscat is a vast city located on the Gulf of Oman. The souq of Muttrah is a must-visit and the Grand Mosque can of course not be missed.
This 10-day trip gives you a complete picture of the country and invites you to think about your next trip to this special destination.

Muscat optional with city tour
Muscat is the capital of Oman and is characterized by the many white houses, which is why Muscat is also called the “white city”. Over the centuries Muscat has been ruled over by various indigenous tribes and foreign powers such as the Portuguese and the Persians. During the past 50 years Qaboos bin Said was sultan of Oman until he died in January 2020. Sultan Qaboos was well loved in Oman. He was never married, didn’t have children and he hadn’t appointed his successor in the event of his death. The Omanis feared for their future without a leader who would follow in the footsteps of the Sultan. After 50 family members debated who would become his succesor, his cousin, 65 year old Haitham Bin Tariq minister of Heritage and Culture, was elected to take his place.
Today you can visit various highlights of the city such as the souq in Muttrah and the Sultan Qaboos Mosque. In this centrally located area of Muscat you can also visit the work palace of the sultan and the royal opera house. If you want to attend a performance at the opera house, we can make a reservation for you. A visit to the Royal Opera House is a chance to be among the local, upper class, citizens who are dressed elegantly for one of the performances. In the evening you can have dinner at the Caramel restaurant close to the Opera House.
